. This procedure is very
patient friendly and in many cases replaces
traditional cut and sew gum surgery.
Laser Periodontal Therapy™ (LPT),
the first-ever patented laser procedure, is not a
‘disease management’ or ‘laser soft care’ technique.
There are an estimated 100 million people in the USA
who have moderate to severe periodontal disease
(pd). Of these, fewer than 3% will receive
traditional care in a given year. Thousands of
people go untreated each year. The dread of
traditional scalpel/suture surgery is so strong that
they prefer the risk of tooth loss and dentures. LPT
offers patients a significantly less traumatic
alternative to traditional periodontal surgery. No
cutting of flaps and no sutures means a faster and
easier recovery with maximum retention of original
gum tissue. Although the laser is a very useful
dental instrument, it is not appropriate for every
procedure. It is frequently used in conjunction with
other dental instruments.
Gum Disease is very prevalent among
adults in America. Fifty percent (50%) have moderate
to severe gum disease and many don't even know it.
Recent studies have shown that the bacteria
associated with gum disease get into the bloodstream
by way of bleeding gums and increase the person's
risk of heart attack, stroke, low birth weight
babies and premature deliveries and even infection
in joint replacements.
